Catherine King

Catherine has worked in the fitness industry since 2003. She is double certified with the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, and a Certified Personal Trainer. Additionally, Catherine is a registered Kinesiologist.
In 2015, Catherine graduated with a Master of Science – Strength and Conditioning from the University of Edinburgh. While in Scotland she interned at the Centre for Sport and Exercise as the assistant S&C coach for the university’s women’s rugby team, and the Scottish Cup championship women’s basketball team. Additionally, she coached performance conditioning for athletes from a variety of sports. Catherine was also the S&C coach for the Hibernian FC women’s under 17 development team and assisted in fitness testing for Queen’s Park FC men’s first, and developmental teams. She also assisted in cognitive attention testing during the FIA Institute Young Driver Excellence Academy.
Previously, she graduated from the University of British Columbia in 2011 with a bachelor degree in Human Kinetics. Catherine's experience is vast; she has coached children, athletes, executives and seniors. With a keen understanding of movement and skills attained from numerous workshops and conferences. Catherine has developed precise coaching ability and is technically solid. In addition to this, she is familiar with prehab and rehabilitation of sports injuries, and has worked as a volunteer Athletic Trainer for Capilano Rugby Club and UBC Women's Volleyball.
Catherine has volunteered with the National Strength and Conditioning Association since 2011. She was the Provincial Director for British Columbia from November 2016 to June 2018. Catherine currently serves as the NSCA North West Regional Coordinator and as a member of the Women’s Committee.
Philosophy:
"I am a strong believer in training correct movement patterns to ensure the body's ability to flex, extend and rotate with power and improved performance. Exercise may be beneficial, but it may also be harmful when incorrect movement patterns and compensations are allowed to perpetuate."

Personal Interests:
Catherine competed in various equestrian events, from western pleasure to hunter under saddle, driving, and dressage. Although she is retired from competition, she is still enamoured with horses. Her other passion was for the martial arts. Catherine began training in kick boxing and has trained in Taekwondo, Kung Fu and Kempo Karate.
When not at work Catherine can be found enjoying the beautiful West Coast hiking and kayaking in the summer and snowshoeing in the winter.
